In the western part Enfield there is a growing, vibrant, multicultural and affluent Muslim community without a mosque to serve their religious needs. A large number of Turkish communities settled here in the 80s and 90s and over the last 30 years communities from Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Middle East and North Africa have also made their home here.

Our aim was to take inspiration from all the mosques around the world which has a courtyard and turn it into modern day functioning prayer/ nursery. We had a height restriction to avoid causing harm to the listed building opposite. We Therefore introduced a basement below to provide extra GIA

Solution

The Brief from the client was vague, the site was full of tree with root protection and our mission was to get a mosque to fit within the RPA’s, we managed to design a modern mosque to function internally and external, the mosque boasts of natural sunlight all throughout..

We implemented a basement to cater for the wider community and provide other facilities i.e halls for rental. We conducted comprehensive research into the different styles of mosques and how they adapt to modern society.
