The property acquired by our clients was believed to have planning permission, however, it’s not always the case that we get projects from the very beginning due to various reasons. Sometimes, clients have pre-existing teams in place, while other times, they require us to fill in gaps in their project.
Our firm has a diverse range of skills, and we were able to assist our clients in obtaining new planning permission. Furthermore, we acted as lead designers for the project, producing complete structural engineering drawings, mechanical engineering specifications, and construction drawings.
The technical design stage is often more complex than obtaining planning permission as it involves understanding the building and requirements, and selecting materials that ensure longevity, such as the appropriate insulation to reduce running costs, and the best structural engineering and mechanical systems.
The building for this project was situated outside the Chelsea Stadium, with a basement extending up to the boundary, requiring a piling foundation. The building was designed to function as a 57-room apart hotel with self-catering facilities, catering to the modern way of living post-Covid-19.
Solution
We were hired for nearly everything on this build, from the discharge of planning conditions, right up to project management. The list is as follows:
– Obtain planning permission working closely with a chosen planning consultant
– Discharge of conditions
– Design detail construction drawings
– Provide Structural Engineering Drawings with associated Structural calculations and rebar drawings
– Interior design package
– Organize tender pack
Designing 57 shaped rooms was different, as you cannot have the same sockets in each room. Therefore, everything within the building has to be designed and provided.
