An additional floor over an 18-metre reinforced-concrete building on Gatliff Road, Westminster, with architectural and mechanical design coordinated around headroom and fire safety.

The Project
The Gatliff Road appointment concerned a new floor above an existing reinforced-concrete building approximately 18 metres high. AC Design Solution was instructed for the planning application and detailed architectural and mechanical drawings.
The brief required a 2.5-metre internal head height while resolving the fire-safety implications of the additional accommodation. The existing building, new floor and services therefore had to be considered together.

Architectural Design
The architectural and mechanical information was developed together so the additional floor could accommodate the required headroom and services. The work concerned an addition to an existing building, with the constraints of the structure below carried into the design.
